Education for Tribal Children

Education is the right of all children and there is a special need for education in remote tribal areas. Even today, due to the limited number of schools, Janjaati children have to travel long distances to access education.

The quality of education is another major challenge among the few available schools. Limited infrastructure and resources affect the learning experience of students in rural and forest areas.

Along with the government, many social organizations are working to improve education in tribal areas. Indian thought emphasizes that society also shares responsibility in ensuring quality education for all.

Ekal Vidyalaya Initiative

Ekal Vidyalaya is a unique initiative where a local youth teaches children of different grades for 3–4 hours daily in villages.

Classes are conducted in courtyards, temples or under trees. Along with formal education, emphasis is given to Sanskar (values), discipline and overall personality development.

Currently, more than 2000 Ekal Vidyalayas are being operated by Kalyan Ashram, making a significant impact in rural education.
